Warrior Award

The Warrior Award is a weekly award for players in the 6-8 girls, 5-6 boys, and 7-8 boys programs. The goal of this weekly award is to highlight and encourage team first play, attitude, and conduct when playing MYBA basketball.

This award is presented to the player on the team who most exemplifies the qualities of a team player. The winner is someone who is always willing to put the team first, who is supportive of their teammates, and who is always willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win.

The ideal candidate for this award is someone who:

  • Is always willing to pass the ball and set up their teammates for success.
  • Is always positive and encouraging, even when the team is losing.
  • Is willing to play any position and do whatever the coach asks.
  • Is a great communicator and is able to build relationships with their teammates.
  • Is always willing to help out with team activities, both on and off the court.

The Warrior Award is a special honor that recognizes the importance of teamwork in basketball. It is an award that is given to a player who truly makes the team better.

Here are some specific examples of things that a player can do to earn the Team Player Award:

  • Make a hustle play to save a possession for the team.
  • Come off the bench and provide a spark for the team.
  • Play defense with intensity and focus.
  • Cheer on their teammates from the sidelines.
  • Help out with team bonding activities.
  • Be a positive role model for younger players.
  • The Warrior Award is a valuable award that recognizes the importance of teamwork in basketball. It is an award that is given to a player who truly makes the team better. 

Criteria

  • Each team nominates one player for them team for the Warrior each week
  • Weekly nominees will:
    • Have their name on the MYBA website
    • Coordinators will announce the weekly winners via email
    • be eligible to win the weekly $10 gift card (for a local business) as the Warrior of the Week
  • At the end of the season, the grade coordinators will discuss with the coaches to pick the 4 overall Warrior Award winners for the season
  • The overall winners will be announced on Championship Monday
